CLIENT BRIEF
Logo components: ‘Harrison’s Painting’ plus an icon positioned either on the side or stacked above (initial preference is stacked).
Colour versions needed: Full colour, black, white
The client provided examples of designs they liked and also the following as a guide:
Lettering – ‘Harrison’s Painting’ in capitals, in thin, #chic, modern font and wide letter spacing. Probably stacked with P A I N T I N G in thinner / smaller font beneath.
Icon – We really like the idea of an abstract hexagon or similar which is made up of a number of similar colour shades in it, kind of subtly representing a paint swatch or part of a colour wheel – but only loosely. We would like to avoid using any lettering within the icon (e.g. “H” or “HP”) or any direct painting references such as the shape of a paintbrush, houses or brushstrokes (a little too token).
Colours – To keep the logo from looking like a full-blown colour wheel / rainbow, we would like to stick to two or three colour tones, but the icon could consist of multiple shades of these colours. Preferred colours are teal greens, turquoise blues and a charcoal navy to make it feel clean, green and eco, and to fit with the Central Coast’s beachy/outdoorsy feeling.
OUTCOME
Even though one of the stipulations was that they didn’t want to have direct painting reference, I wanted to try incorporating a paint roller into the hexagon shape, but in a slightly abstract way. I thought it might work, as most of the competitor research showed an actual brush or brush stroke, not a roller.
The clients were super surprised that this paint roller option was the one they loved the most. They were really happy that I kept that option in there to show them.
