This suite of wedding stationary was a personal project designed for my own wedding. The goal was to keep the design clean, simple and elegant, and visually compliment the choice of venue.
For the save the dates, the aim was to design an invitation that would make it easy for the guests to pop somewhere safe to keep the date saved. I researched a range of different products online to find something that would suit this purpose and I found a site that engraved little wooden discs with magnets on the back. These not only suited the aim of having something easy for the guests to pop somewhere, but it complimented our choice of wedding venue, and as a bonus I could supply a custom design. Because these discs were relatively small, the key information was kept on the magnet disc and the additional copy on the backing card, including the same information behind where the magnet was placed, so the two pieces would also work as individual designs. The venue of the wedding was on a beautiful vineyard down in the Southern Highlands, and the greenery and floral leaf design was chosen to compliment the lush green found on the property.
With the wedding stationary set I wrote down all the different pieces that needed to be designed; the invitation, RSVP card, menus, seating plan, guest book and a RSVP website. All these pieces needed to complement each other and the best way to achieve this was for them to have a consistent element. My husband joked that we were branding our wedding.
I researched a few different ideas, looking at other examples of wedding invitations, to develop a consistent element. Out of all the research, I was really drawn to wedding invitations that had a monogram of the letters combing the bride and groom’s first name. In addition to this monogram, I added in the same wreath design from the save the dates, to link these invitations and add some visual interest to the wedding invitation. The design was purposefully kept clean and simple. I opted to have a single colour print, perfect for letterpress printing (I have always wanted letterpressed invitations).
The ceremony and reception were on the same venue and to make this easier for guests to navigate, I designed/drew a map of the venue and various areas the guests would be directed to on the day, as an addition to the suite.
As a final piece to give the invitations an extra something special, the envelopes were sealed with a custom wax seal, with the monogram design.
